About the Artist
Mike Kunka grew up between Ohio's farm country and rust belt. It was this mix of pastoral landscape and gritty urbanism that shaped his artistic approach. Mike always held an appreciation for art, but he did not find the medium of painting until his late 40's.
Mike has focused his studies of art on painters of the Industrial Revolution. Nineteenth century artists like Thomas Cole, Fredrick Church, and Albert Bierstadt were also caught between industry and bucolic landscapes.
From his studies, Mike has developed a Soft Realism style to his painting. He enjoys creating serene places, metropolitan and agrarian, where someone can escape from a hectic day without ever leaving the room.
